Most Common Group Verbs  | Phrasal verbs in English 


Group verbs/ Phrasal verbs: 

Group verbs/ Phrasal verbs are combinations of two or more words that function as a single new verb having a distinct meaning from the original ones. For instance, Look down upon, come out, get into, come down, get at, look for, etc.

Learning phrasal terms or group words is crucial to become an expert in both grammar and the English language. Here is the most common Groupe verb that every student must learn these verbs to make a good result in their competitive examination.


Look 

Look about/look for: (খোজ করা)  I am looking for a boy.

Look after: (দেখাশুনা করা)  I look after my friends.

Look down upon: (অবহেলা করা) The poor are always looked down upon.

Look into: (তদন্ত করা)The chairman looked into the matter.

Look over /through: (ভাল করে দেখা) The examiner looked over the script.

 

Come 

Come about: (ঘটা)  The quarrel came about for a beautiful girl.

Come across: (হঠাà§Ž ধেখতে পাওয়া)  I came across him in the jungle.

Come by:  (পাওয়া)The man came by a purse of gold.

Come off: (সংঘঠিত হওয়া) The program comes of today.

Come out: (প্রকাশ পাওয়া) The result of our exam came out yesterday.

Come down: (কমে যাওয়া/ শান্ত হওয়া) The price of rice has come down.

 

Keep

Keep on: (চালিà§Ÿে যাওয়া)  I am keeping on  my studies.

Keep up with: (তাল মিলিà§Ÿে চলা)  I cannot keep up with my friends.

Keep away / off : (সরিà§Ÿে ফেলা) A good boy keeps himself away from the evil company.

Keep at: (সাথে থাকা)  He could not keep at his principle.

 

Go 

Go after: (অনুসরন করা) The tiger went after the dear.

Go against:(বিরুদ্ধে যাওয়া) I cannot go against my boss.

Go away: (পালিà§Ÿে যাওয়া) He has gone away from the country forever.

Go ahead:  (চালিà§Ÿে যাওয়া ) I cannot go ahead with my studies.

 

Get 

Get at: (নাগাল পাওয়া) He could not get at his goal.

Get into:  (প্রবেশ করা) He got into a second class room.

Get off: (বিচ্চুত হওয়া) We all got up from the bus.

Get through: (ভালভাবে পড়ে শেষ করা) I got through the book.

Get down: (নেমে পড়া) Get down what I say.

  

Do 

Do into:  (অনুবাদ করা) Do the English into Bengali.

Do off:  (খুলে ফেলা ) Do off your shirt.

Do on: (পরিধান করা) Do on your shirt.

  

Carry 

Carry away: (বয়ে নিà§Ÿে যাওয়া) The crops were carried away a strong current.

Carry on:  (পালন করা) We should carry on our duty.

Carry out: (মান্য করা) The students should carry out his teachers.

Carry off: (জয় করা) You will carry off the price.

 

Break 

Break away: (পালিà§Ÿে যাওয়া) The thief broke away from the jail.

Break out:  (দেখা দেওয়া) Diarrhoea has broken out in the city.

Break up: (ছুটি)  Our school breaks up at 4:00 p.m.

Break into: (জোর করে প্রবেশ করা)  Last night they broke into the room.

Break down: (ভেংগে পড়া)  His health has broken down.

 

Bring 

Bring about:  (ঘটা) The incident has brought about 8:00 p.m.

Bring down:  (পরাজিত হওয়া ) He was brought down in the battle.

Bring up: (লালন পালন করা) I was brought up by my uncle.

Bring on:  (ঘটা)Smoking brings on various problems.

Bring out:  (প্রকাশিত হওয়া)He has brought out a new edition of books.
